4 year old very early riser but always tired - help!

DD is 4 and always been an early riser - between 5.30 and 5.45. We thought this would improve when she went to nursery/pre-school but it hasn't! This isn't helped by us working shifts so someone is usually getting up at this time (though DD2 manages to sleep until 7.30 ish undisturbed!)

Problem is DD seems to be constantly tired/whingy/lacking in energy until she gets into tired hyper mode. She won't nap during day (and starts school in Sept anyway) so the best I do is put her to bed ridiculously early as even if she goes to bed at 8pm she's still up at the crack of dawn. I'm tired and frustrated that she is always tired! Anyone got any ideas?

Is there anything else that might be waking her apart from adults getting ready for work - hot water clicking on, milk or supermarket delivery clanking past?

Have you heard about Wake To Sleep? You rouse the child a bit before their usual rousing time, not enough to wake them, just to make them stir roll over and dive into a fresh sleep cycle. There are threads on here about WTS, have a search. This technique can reset their sleep pattern.

Is something waking her?conversely is she warm enough? Temp drops on the early hours which can wake them.

Have you tried a gro clock?

Is she waking up hungry?
Is it too light in her room?
Is she going to bed over tired? We find putting our dd to bed earlier helps her sleep later.
Is she cold?
I know lots of people who have sworn by the gro clock.
