do you mean first teeth? yes, ds got them at that age. every single tooth took an age to come through too. he's getting his second lot of molars now at 2.7, bless him.

USAUKMum · 21/08/2006 20:02

Both my children were late teethers. DD about 9 - 10 mths for 1st tooth, DS about 9 mths. Both got their teeth really fast, in about 6 mths we had 16 teeth (now that is painful, and that is just me!)

My neice also is a late teether, hers started at 11 mths and is still awaiting the arrival of some. She was 2 at the end of July !

So you are not alone.

SenoraPostrophe · 21/08/2006 20:03

think toothless 10 month olds are really cute though!

USAUKMum · 21/08/2006 20:04

that is my neice has yet to achieve 16, my DS not yet had his second molars -- though only just 2 at the end of July (yes, 6 days between the two cousins)

Mine were late - ds2 didn't get his first until the week of his first birthday!

Apparently it is linked to the second teeth as well, which has proved true for us. So ds2 has only just started losing his milk teeth and he is 7 already. This means he should be really good at brushing them properly when he gets his adult teeth, so this is a good thing!
(But he was a bit fed up when his friends were making a mint from the tooth fairy and he wasn't. Especially so now as the TF who begrudgingly comes to this house only leaves 20p per tooth, compared to £1 that some of his mates get!)

DD2 was 11 months when she got her first tooth, but they'd been visible for a while before that.

She was 2 last week and still only has 11 teeth, and they have come through in an odd order - she has 4 front teeth, 3 at the bottom and then 4 molars right at the back.

We do find that they give her a lot of gyp when they come through though, and she gets al the classic teething signs.

babesnme · 21/08/2006 21:11

Hi! My ds was 13mths before she got her 1st tooth! she's 3 in October and there's still no sign of her 2nd molars, altho she does complain of tooth ache sometimes. Apparently my brother still had no teeth aged two but has fab teeth now.

hulababy · 21/08/2006 21:13

DD got her first tooth at 13 months. Then all came in wrong order, with bottom middle two coming very late on. Even ended upop visiting the children's dental hospital to check it all out. At 4yo she now has all her teeth and they are all fine, although those two middle ones are a bit crooked as aresult.

It never stopped her eating anything at all though

kittywits · 21/08/2006 21:50

My ds1 was like hulababy's. 14 months before the first, all in the wrong order. The last ones at the front didn't come through 'till he waas gone three. Now of course they are late falling out again! he 's 8 and has only lost 2. Infact the second teeth have got fed up waiting are are staring to poke up behind. I joke that he'll still be gappy when he's dating

kittywits · 21/08/2006 21:53

come to think of it all of my kids have been late teethers, my dp was, must be in the genes. I think it's a good thing really, keeps them nice and protected in the gums. Dd3 8 months shows absolutely no sign of getting any yet!

Cailyn3 · 22/08/2006 19:38

My youngest son didn't get any teeth till he turned one, then he ended up getting four top front teeth in the space of a week! I stopped breast feeding him then too, when my babies grow teeth and bite, I stop feeding. I heard that late teethers have really strong teeth though, (and really strong gums before they come in!)

lapsedrunner · 22/08/2006 19:44

DS disn't get one until 12 months.

Twiga · 22/08/2006 20:13

Really pleased to see this thread as dd is just over 11 months old with not a tooth to be seen. She periodically has all the symptoms but not so much as a bump to be felt anywhere. Feels like we've been waiting an age esp as hv said there were signs of her teething at 14 weeks. She's our first so nothing to go by, only one left in our ante-natal group waiting - I think she'll be well past one before any appear - good to see there's no need to worry just yet.

Can anyone tell me how old your child should be with no teeth before you need to get things checked? Thanks x

hotmama · 22/08/2006 20:20

My dd1 (22 months) didn't get any teeth until she was 11 months. Then didn't get her next two until she was 16 months. She now has all 8 at the front, 4 molars and 1 canine tooth - but they came in the 'wrong' order.

I think this is heriditary, I had to have my top canines pulled out when I was 13 - as they wouldn't come out by themselves - my adult teeth just grew over them - this has also happened to my dn who is 12.

Reece · 22/08/2006 21:39

DS1 got his first tooth at 13 mths. It then took a couple of months for him to get another. He is still waiting for 2nd molars and he is 2.9!
DS2 got his 1st tooth at 9 mths (2 came together). I was never overly concerned about the late teething. At least they were protected in the gums
