DS is 19 months, and not saying Mummy or Daddy yet. He has around 15 words that are clear and relatively easy to understand, from the name of our dog to types of food to household objects. He gabbled away constantly in language that sounds like speech but isn't, and also has about another 20 "words" that are completely not the right word, often the noise that something makes or sometimes something random, but I understand what he's saying. (I don't mean brum-brum for car etc, although he says that, I mean a weird squeak noise for "bird", or an impression of the Hoover noise for "Hoover", or "psss-psss" for flower!).
Does that sound normal or not? All of my NCT group seemed to start with "mummy" and go from there. What should I be doing to encourage him to use the right word for things?
