Not sure if this is the right place to post, sorry! My 4 week old DS has one swollen testicle. So half looks fine and soft. The other half is swollen and q firm to touch. Is this normal? Do I need to get it checked out? It's my first so I have no idea what I'm found Confused I'm waiting for a call back from te HV. Any idea what it could be?

GP straight away. It needs looking at in case it is something that could result in permanent damage.
Is he in pain?

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 07/04/2014 15:27

GP. My son had the same thing when he was 7 weeks and he was sent into hospital. It resolved itself, thank goodness.

I hope he's OK.

It could just be hormones (from your body) making their way through his system after the birth.

GP/hospital - my son had this and it was a type of hernia - usually fine but can become trapped. He had an operation at 6 weeks old at Royal Alex Childrens Hospital and has never suffered any ill-effects. In fact you can hardly see his scar now. Much worse for us as parents - but he WILL be fine xxxx

GP or even A&E! My son had this at 18 days, it turned out to be a testicle torsion and he had to have an emergency op the same day.

PretzelPrincess · 08/04/2014 02:19

So we went to the GP and got sent to A+E, turns out he has a hydrocele! So just fluid around the testicle. It's apparently fairly common and dosent need treatment. Thankfully not a hernia or tortion. They've said he probably has a virus which has caused it and should hopefully clear up on its own.
Thanks for all the advice guys! I may have just ignored it otherwise Blush Better safe than sorry Smile

That's great news. I hope he's feeling better quickly. That must have been a worry for you, I hope you're OK Thanks

My DS had a hydrocele! It completely cleared itself up by the time he was 5 months old.

imme · 08/04/2014 12:07

Pleased it wasn't anything serious! You must be really relieved!

PretzelPrincess · 08/04/2014 12:36

I'm totally relieved! He's just a bit sniffly so will be getting more attention than he already does Smile

My DS also had a hydrocele.. quite big too! I gradually resolved over a few months, no intervention needed :)
