Oh no, the raging toddler tantrums!

Oh, I'd forgotten. DD was highly proficient in them - now at 4.6 they're still frequent but short lived and of a different type.

But I can hear DS (21 months) downstairs, sobbing wildly because the planets won't sing their songs in the order he wants them to (YouTube video he loves). It's been going on ten minutes now.

Yesterday it was about wanting to walk in the co op (yes I have reins, well a back pack, but walking while I got a basket of shopping was not an option...)

I use 'The Happiesr Toddler on the Block' techniques and they generally work. But I forgot how exhausting it is.

He's a fluent talker, as was his sister. It doesn't stop them tantrumming at all! Their toddler understanding, or lack of it, is just as frustrating as not being able to say what they want!

Just venting. I'm sure our trip to the children's farm will be the joy and delight that DD is expecting (punctuated by much extended wailing for the toy tractors, no doubt...)

On the floor when you tell him off or say no! Is that normal ?

Hi, sounds perfectly normal if what I observed today at a barn full of ride on tractors and small children is anything to go by.

Mine wasn't even the loudest screamer - I was disappointed in him! He did manage to bite me quite hard in the face though.

Mostly, he is the most adorable creature in existence. But the tantrums are somewhat unpleasant!

My you best gets like this when she's exhausted or tired. If I sit down at her level and open my arms to offer a cuddle calmly, it usually snaps her out of it while she sobs in my arms :(

WE went to a point to point today, DS had an epic tantrum because he - at precisely 87cm tall - wasn't allowed to go on a racehorse.

My 19 m dd had a massive screaming fit as I prized the biscuit out of hand when she got in the bath. This was after she'd had said biscuit in hand for a good half hour and was only giving it a lick every now and then.

I always find threads like this so reassuring! Ds had got much better recently, as his language has improved (speech delay). But we've had some epic screaming fits the last few days. I am now absolutely firm about leaving the room while he is screaming. We have a hilarious (after a glass of wine has calmed me down) Pavlovian training thing happening now where he stops screaming so I return. He screams, to test my response. I turn around and start walking away. He stops. If he's still very upset he thing kind of humphs and wriggles his toes to mimic a a scream without actually screaming. I return. Repeat. I am hoping this consistent and calm approach is working.

Oh yes yes definately going to try and follow working advice, especially the wine bit .

one of todays tantrums were because we needed to stop hugging a tree (past home time) and also because he couldn't throw himself into the lake (though I wanted to chuck myself in at our attempt at a 'nice walk around the park')
