6 month old kicks wildly

I feel daft for asking this but people have got me worrying!!

DS is 6 and a half months old and since he was about 2-3 months old he's always liked being put on the floor and he kicks his legs really fast, waves his arms around and sometimes screams cause he's so excited and happy.

I thought all babies did this but apparently nobody else's babies do this that I know!!

I love him doing it and he is a very happy boy, a lot better behaved than their babies. Their babies scream and cry all the time because they're bored so maybe this is my DS's way of keeping himself entertained? He will sit very still and quietly too at times, he doesn't make a fuss very often

Is it normal for him to do this?
It just worried me a bit when I realised no other babies did it and it's got me thinking he's got something different about him!

It's fine. I'm looking after a 6 months old at the moment who finds life very exciting.

My DS was constantly on the go at that age, kicking and wriggling, and is still really active now at the grand old age of ten - he's perfectly capable of sitting still at school but spends every playtime playing football, and does tons of extracurricular sport. I think some kids are just more naturally active than others!

It's bloody gorgeous when DS does it, he's so so happy

But when people have commented on him doing it it made me worry!
But like I said in the OP they aren't easily pleased babies, they're very fussy compared to my DS

Mine did the same thing, although he also screamed a lot.

He's 10 years old now, and is still very bouncy.

He used to do such a sweet thing with his little leggies - it looked as though he was trying to kickstart a baby motorbike!

DS sometimes kicks his legs, twists his hands so it looks like he's revving a motorbike and blows raspberries at the same time so it sounds like he's doing the engine noises

In that case, I predict that you have a sporty little dude on your hands! DP took DS out to practice his corner kicks a few weeks ago - apparently every time he went to collect the ball, DS was practicing headstands - no opportunity for a wriggle around goes to waste, even now!

I have 3 dcs and 2 of them did this and one didn't, just different approaches to life!

Everyone keeps telling me he's going to be a rugby player because he's on the 91st centile and he's very tall

Steppemum- can you tell a difference in activity levels in your DCs now they're older? If they are much older that is!

My DS2 (now 2.5 yrs old) used to lift his legs in the air and slam them down on the mattress when he was in his cot fast asleep. You could hear it from downstairs, he did it with such force. It really freaked me out and he did it every night for weeks until I realised he was no longer doing it. Never did it when awake. So weird!! People commented when they came round because it was a real thud from upstairs. I have not heard of any other child doing this. But he has turned out pretty normal (ok, debatable at times!). Nellie- aww what a cutie, DS apparently does that at my mum and dads if they have him over night! But I never hear him doing it myself

They're hilarious.
My favourite is when two babies see eachother and just sit and stare, that or jab the other one in the eye

My little girl kicked wildly, well it looked like she was vigorously skipping horizontally
She also likes to slam her legs down too.
She's 8.5months and has today just started crawling (yep stealth boast)

It's normal and looks very cute!

At this age DS kicked so hard that when he was lying on the bathroom floor it sounded as if he was about to come through the ceiling if you were in the kitchen underneath. He was a very early walker and is now an incredibly strong and active toddler. I think it's a way of strengthening their muscles.

He is very strong! He stands on his legs really well for ages, where the babies who don't do it they're very floppy on their legs!

Mine is 5 months and she does this! She's never still and kicks around wildly. I just assumed it was normal.

I think it is normal after starting this thread!

I thought DS was odd for doing it but now I've realised he's just fun, happy and full of life
