Counting

Hi, Does anyone know any great toys, computer games, books etc that involve counting beyond 10. My toddler is nearly 2 1/2 and loves to count, but most toys/book only go up to 10. He can count beyond 100 and pretty much up to 1000, but anything would be great.

If he's counting, I'd start to introduce foundation number skills like number bonds to ten (2+8, 5+5, etc) and looking at what numbers do. Get him to recognise what numbers look like, so ask him to tell you what number say a house is or the oven temperature for instance. My kids use the squeebles, apps which are brilliant and there are several for different maths skills. These were recommended by a maths teacher friend. I don't know if they are suitable for a 2 year old though and they're not free. I'd also recommend puzzle games and apps as these also develop mathematical skills. Basically doing anything that involves numbers and problem solving will develop his understanding and put his counting into perspective. Weighing ingredients, counting buttons, coins, socks stairs. Just have fun with him

Thank you for your response. Yes I started doing simples maths sums with him today and he was quite excited. I will look at some literature on how to start. We already do house numbers as I can't get passed any house without him telling me what number it is. He also plays with my oven clock and changes the time and counts although I wish I had a child lock on this! :) Counting is pretty much all I do with him and his favourite toy is a calculator and he can easily type all the numbers on it.
But thank you for your idea and yes I will do some reading on how to teach him basic maths.

Thank you, the book on amazon is currently unavailable but I have just bought some others similar to this and basic sums ones so I am hoping he will like these. :)
