Screeching 7month old

My DS screeches and screams all the time. It has got so bad recently that I can't go out for coffee or lunch with pals as he is so earpiercingly loud. It gets worse when he is tired but he keeps it up consistently all day; it's as if he is frustrated. I look at all the other babies asleep in prams and mothers enjoying their lunch and wonder how I can get him to shut up! It's been going on for a good three months. Has anyone else experienced this at this age?

Is it crying type screetching or just I have discovered my voice screetching?

Discovered my voice type. I think. He doesn't seem at all perturbed by it - in fact, he seems a little jubilent most of the time. A dummy works to a certain extent but I HATE using it, especially if it is him just be talkative...

Mine does it in Tesco's and seems to do it when he feels left out of the conversation, I usually distract him by starting him playing patty cake (clapping hands etc.) sometimes works...

My dd2 was a screamer! . People used to look at me when i was out shopping in that disaproving way! One woman asked me "can't you make her stop?" I thought "does this woman think I like this noise?!".

Does your ds make other normal baby noises, like babbling baby talk? Or do you just get screaming?

My dd2 screamed in place of talking. I mean the only communucation felt like screaming.

My health visitor was no use as all she kept telling me that she would grow out of it.

If you think that it is not "normal" screaming then go see a doctor and speak to them about your concerns.

Sing to him lots and see if you can turn the screaming into something people want to listen to.

he does make other noises, babbling and suchlike so i suppose it is him being experimental. if only he could do some experimental silences too! mumoftwoangels - how long did it go on for with your DD2?

ds went through a phase of screeching (as part of his 'speech') probably around the same age...it didn't last long, few weeks maybe...now it is just part of his array of sounds! He also went tjhrough a squeaky mousie stage and a growl like a bear stage!!!

Completely normal..dd is just 8mths and has been doing it for about 4mths. Went worse when she was trying to crawl but a litle better now she is mobile but she has her moments. It is more a protest against doing things she doesnt want to do..she also screeches warnings at ds if he goes near her..lol

You don't want to know!! It turned out my daughter had expressive speach delay, so screaming was her only form of communication and it was frustrating for us both. As words came the screaming went. But she didn't start talking until she was well over 2. She didn't babble or coo, so if your ds is doing that then i am sure he will progress normally.

As with most things like this for my dd2 there was an underlying cause, her tonsils and adenoids. Both of which are going soon!

I had the screaming for well over 2 years, but i soon learned to disdinquish temper screams from frustration. And dealt with each accordingly. Frustration with reassurance and temper with deafness!

hope i haven't scared you too much, but dd2 is a normal well adjusted 3 year old now in everyway except her talking is about 6 - 12 months behind.

I know how hard it is and some days i used to just cry because i thought it would never end.But it has.

Ds did this for about 2 months, but then suddenly he found he could do other noises and it stopped.
It may just be a phase he's going through
