16 month started head butting

My little girl has over the last week started to headbutt object's,the floor or me. Sometimes I think it's in anger but sometimes it starts for no reason. She also slaps her self in the head and face. I never hit her, nor has she ever been hit so I don't know where this behaviour is coming from. While this is frustrating for me, I'm worried she could really hurt herself.

Please help!

my 16month old does this from time to time..deliberately slamming her head back on her high chair, or onto the window.

i'm presuming it's just something they do?! She certainly hasn't seen any hitting to know what it is!
