Only children - anyone recommend a book to help me understand her ?

Hi,

I am always posting about my dd's behaviour - and now have progressed to moaning at people in RL - well one person said to me "You need to read a book about the psychology of being an only child as they believe they are adults and that's why she won't accept you telling her what to do !" - which was interesting !

But - which book ?? Has anyone read anything good they'd recommend on this subject ?

Hi Batters - I'm not sure about what she says either - I am an only child myself and certainly never felt that I was an adult - but then my mother was very very hard on me and I was never under any illusions of grandeur ! My dd on the other hand - might think she is an adult as I have always tried to give her more self esteem than I have - so have always given her choices about clothes, food, decorating her room etc - so I could believe that it is my approach that has done it - rather than the lack of siblings !

I don't know the ins and outs of this but one thought struck me. Sometimes as parents of only children our expectations are too high. I read somewhere that only children get away with less as their the parents tend to be always 'there' if you see what I mean as they are not distracted by other children.

I haven't read any books about only children (of which DS is almost certainly going to be one) but I've seen a few (admitedly mostly American)
