7 Month old constantly scratching

All I ever seem to do is pull my DSs hands away from his neck/behind his ears. Ive noticed he does it more when he's asleep, tired or annoyed.

I put socks over his hands as often as possible and keep his nails short, but he still manages to make himself bleed and the skin on his neck is so sore.

He also dribbles alot which has made his skin sore and cracked.

Cream prescribed from the doctor hasn't helped. Has anyone else experienced this with their baby?

You can buy special vests with built in mittens which DD used to wear underneath her sleep suits to stop her scratching once she got old enough to figure out how to pull the socks off her hands.

What sort of cream did the doctor prescribe? Was it a mild steroid cream?
Soreness around the mouth might be due to dribbling or it might also be eczema (DD's first appeared around her mouth and we thought it was due to dribbling. Spent several weeks applying E45 cream to try to sooth it but just ended up making it much worse because it was in fact eczema. Still feel guilty about this nearly 14 years later!)

Thank you for replying. I can't remember the name of the cream but it wasn't a steroid one. I think I'll take him back to the GP.

The reason I thought it was A dribble rash was because it started at the same time the dribbling started. He does dribble ALOT. I have about 60 bibs (cotton, not plastic backed) which I go through in about 2-3 days because he can soak through one in about 5 minutes.

If it was eczema though, wouldn't he be ichy in other places?

Thanks for the tip about the vests too, I'll definitely be looking for some tomorrow. Im fed up of putting the socks back on his hands 50 times a night!
