Help - my 2 year old pulls out tufts of her hair!

My 2 year old daughter has started to pull out her hair and is developing a bald patch. Having pulled out a tuft of hair, she then fiddles with it, often tickling her nose with the hair, while sucking her thumb. She tends to hair pull when she is tired and sometimes when something does not suit. She sometimes asks me to give her one of my hairs to fiddle with. Any suggestions about dealing with this?

There is a name for this, but it escapes me atm. It is a nervous habit for a lot of people. Hard with a 2 year old, but you need to try to substitute something else when you see her doing it, imo. Maybe a fuzzy toy that she could work on instead of her own scalp?
