...expect a child to say "that's part of a heart Mummy" in reference to the handle of a mug. Just curious.

My ds could recognise a part of a shape like that. He's 3.

He sees all sorts of things we don't notice until it's pointed out.

I think that level of grammar is more impressive than the shape-spotting - ds would have been 3 or 4 before saying that, but by 2 would have pointed and said 'heart', maybe even 'heart broken'. Dd is just 2 and saying things like that.
