Has anyone's baby just never crawled?

Dd is nearly 11 months and is far more interested on being walked around rather than learning to crawl. If you put her in the position she just lays there till she cries or rolls over. She doesn't commando crawl or bum shuffle either.

Will she just go straight to walking and never crawl?

DD didn't crawl until 15mo, crawled for 4 days, then stood up and walked, no wobbling. She just couldn't be bothered with crawling- it was for babies! Grin

She was definitely behind her peers physical development wise in infant school, but her development in other areas was ahead. It all evens out later.

BackforGood · 18/02/2014 11:05

Not mine, but it's not that uncommon - most do bum shuffle if they don't crawl, but again, not unheard of for them to do neither.

georgedawes · 18/02/2014 11:05

Lots don't, it's not a developmental milestone like walking etc is.

bruffin · 18/02/2014 11:08

My DS only ever dragged himself along by his arms, not proper commando, but he walked at 10 months.

BetterWithCheese · 18/02/2014 11:14

My DS crawled after walking at about 13 or 14 months. He did a weird bum shuffle/crab walk thing from about 10 months though.

justaweeone · 18/02/2014 11:15

Both of mine never crawled. A bit of bum shuffling then walked quite young

HumphreyCobbler · 18/02/2014 11:17

My friend's ds never crawled, always wanted to be walked around instead. He is v advanced physically now, biking, climbing, football etc.

CinnabarRed · 18/02/2014 11:17

2 of my 3 didn't crawl. DS2 did bum shuffle. DS1 went straight from sitting to walking; he learned to walk the day after he learned to pull up to standing.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 18/02/2014 11:19

Crawling isn't an "official" developmental stage for this reason, apparently :)

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 18/02/2014 11:21

DS commandoed and then cruised Hmm He then stayed in this stage for EIGHT months before finally plucking up the courage to walk on his own (which he'd been able to do for 6 months because I saw him do it accidentally) at 16 months.

However he did crawl as well as cruising, if there was nothing to hold onto he'd drop down and crawl.

RawCoconutMacaroon · 18/02/2014 11:27

Ds1 crawled for about 4 days, prior to that he would scream in frustration at not being able to move (could stand and cruise along furniture), if placed in the centre of the room. Walked at 10 1/2 months, so late crawler and early walker!

RawCoconutMacaroon · 18/02/2014 11:27

On his own I mean.

PatriciaHolm · 18/02/2014 11:29

DD didn't really. She walked on her knees for several months!

Cringechilli · 18/02/2014 11:35

Neither of my dc crawled. One cruised for a short time before walking and the other cruised for a long time before walking!

chaostheory · 18/02/2014 11:38

PatriciaHolm, I came on to say the same thing, my oldest DD walked on her knees for ages (had to repair lots of holes in the knees of her trousers) and then finally walked at 15 months. She never crawled.

MomOrMum · 18/02/2014 11:39

My DS1 didn't budge until he walked out of nowhere at 10 months.

DipDabDabDip · 18/02/2014 18:27

Ooh this makes me feel better! She's so intent on being walked about and pulling up I've got a feeling she will never crawl! She never want to sit still or stay on your knee, he wriggles until she's standing then demands you walk her! If she's fed up of sitting on the floor the arms go up or she's looking round for a leg to try and pull up on.

Even tempting her with a toy or food won't get her shifting!
It's amazing how different they all are isn't it.

I never crawled and went straight to walking. However. tummy time is very important.

bigbuttons · 19/02/2014 22:49

ds1 never crawled. He did some funny bear like movements for a few days then got up and walked at 10 months.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 20/02/2014 14:02

DS crawled for a week then walked at 12 months and 2 weeks.

CMOTDibbler · 20/02/2014 14:08

DS didn't crawl till a week before he was 1, but had been cruising since 9 months. He only crawled for 8 weeks till he could walk properly, and never did again.

I only crawled backwards apparently

2beornot · 20/02/2014 14:10

Dd walked at 10.5 months, but at stage still couldn't crawl or pull herself up. She learnt to do this at 13 months so a bit back to front!!

Thesebootsweremadeforwalking · 20/02/2014 14:12

DS didn't crawl until after he walked, at 13 months. I suspect DD is going the same way.

Doitnicelyplease · 20/02/2014 17:33

I would say try not to help her walk too much, I read that this can be slightly detrimental (according to physios) a distraction to what they should be doing/learning on their own (but yes all babies love this).

If she is strong and can push a walker, pull up on her own then she may be close to walking but she could just be taking her time learning to crawl.

My DD2 didn't crawl till just before 1, then became v fast at crawling/scooting and bum shuffling (depending on what terrain!) - she didn't walk independently until 17 months.

DD1 was walking before her first birthday. They are all different :)

stopgap · 21/02/2014 02:30

I walked on my first birthday, and did zero crawling beforehand.
