Cradle Cap

My 8mo DD has had cradle Cap since she was about 4 months old. She gets bathed every night/every second night and I always use the detinox cradle cap shampoo. It goes away for a few hours then I can see it appearing again.

She doesn't have much hair on the top front part of her head and that's where it is. It's very noticeable and I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to clear it up? Like I said, the shampoo does work but it doesn't clear it completely or for very long

To be honest I'd ditch the shampoo - we only bathe our son once every 4 days or so and don't use anything on his head and it's the only way we keep his scalp relatively clear. On the odd occasion we try a new shampoo, even a natural veg-oil based one rather than a synthetic oil, it always flares up.
I sometimes just rub in a really basic (not synthetic) moisturiser - makes his hair look a bit greasy but helps his skin so that's the main thing!
His is also affected by different foods - if he has tomato his eczema and cradle cap get loads worse for example.

I second the not using shampoo, my DD's scalp got very red and irritated the only time we ever used baby shampoo.

Have you tried using olive oil? I read that it worked so I tried it and after just using it once almost all of her cradle cap was gone. She didn't have a particularly bad case of it though so I appreciate olive oil may not always do the trick. Sorry if you've already tried this, I've nothing else useful to suggest

I haven't tried olive oil, I never even thought about that so thanks I'll give that a try tonight

I'll stop the shampoo use and see if it helps too, I'm willing to give anything a try

I used a combination of olive oil then shampoo.
Rub olive oil into the scalp in the evening, leave in overnight and shampoo in the morning. Worked a treat.

Olive oil and a nit comb (as suggested on here). Got rid of my DD's cradle cap in one go. Plaster her head in the oil and comb through. The comb lifts the dry and dead skin. Her scalp will be very red after but my DD showed no discomfort while I was doing it. I think she enjoyed the sensation!

Olive oil worked here too. DS only had a patch of cradle cap though. I bath him dry his scalp with towel rubbing over the patch to loosen the dead skin then rub in the olive oil, leave it a while to soak in then rub his head again with the towel to remove all the skin flakes, seemed to work. His flares up every now and again but doing this seems to keep it at bay for quite a while.

Dentinox is shit. I did DS3's head with the nit comb but no olive oil bad mummy Only have extra virgin olive oil, will any other oil do?!?

I left well alone and it went of its own accord. Took 2yrs tho for both of them.

Agree with combing it out, we just used a regular comb. We also didn't use any oil, just combed it well when it was wet, sometimes with shampoo in & sometimes not, kept doing it a few times, quite firmly (but not roughly). DS was quite a bit older though - maybe 2.6.

I'm sure any oil would do rocky. One of my friends used baby oil on her DS.

Oil of any kind will do. Ironically my teenager got it when he wasn't brushing his hair: hairdresser said the reason they get it is cos the scalp gets rid of dead skin when combed, brushed or towel dried, but we tend to be delicate with babies heads. Get rid of it with the oil and then make sure you try to give the head a little rub with the towel after a bath x

We are using olive oil then using a soft brush to massage his head and its gradually getting better. But ds has it where he has loads of hair so not noticeable.

Baby oil, all over scalp, massage in and leave in over night! (Or as long as possible) Shampoo out in the morning. My daughter had really bad cradle cap, we tried the dentinox shampoo for a while with no luck, used the baby oil trick 2/3 nights in a row and it was completely gone!

I used a soft brush to get rid of it and then massaged baby oil into his scalp. I left the oil in for a day and then used Welleda bath wash/shampoo. I only wash his hair twice a week but give it a brush twice a day with a soft baby brush. So far it hasn't come back.

My MIL made me use a teaspoon of butter which you melt until its brown, cool and rub in.

I used coconut oil as I preferred the smell :)

Cleared up in a couple of days.

This is what I did and it literally cleared it away in one evening. Get a bottle of olitatum bath ( junior) and stick her in the bath. Wet her scalp and keep it wet for a while to soften the hard skin. Rub in and "shampoo " her hair with the bath liquid, it actually foams up a bit like shampoo. With a soft baby brush brush her scalp thoroughly, for quite some time, the cradle cap will come right off. Rinse and a lot of the cradle cap should be gone. You might have to repeat a few times if its really bad. I think it works because olitatum is used to treat excema and such which are types of fungus as is cradle cap. But don't quote me on it, I'm certainly no dermatologist!

We were using the Dentinox shampoo on my DS's scalp but I was worried about it being harsh as he has very dry sensitive skin. A friend recommended Burts bees shampoo for cradle cap. It's on the pricey side but a little goes a long way. Just started using it and I'm impressed so far. No nasties in it and smells lovely.

Olive oil overnight and then pick away in the morning. I loved picking DTs!
