Concerns about my daughter.

My daughter is 14.5 months old. She can walk unaided however she has no words, doesn't point or wave, she can clap but mostly it's arm flapping. She doesn't seem to respond to her name as well as before and when it comes to her toys she just hits them together then throws them.

She'll look and move an object in her hand and just stare at it.

She loves books but is more than happy to sit herself with them. She has good eye contact and will beam when I look at her, she likes to find me when I hide and laughs a lot when she does.

She does make a "mmmmmm" nose and she seems to say "goh" a lot.

I'm waiting for my HV to call back and arrange an appointment to see her.

Also if I point and look at something she doesn't pay attention.

How long did they say you'd have to wait for an appointment? Seems forever.

Could be stubborn. My dd is Shock

She said it could take up to two months.

And just today she was chasing after my neighbours son clapping her hands. Are these good signs?

Some more updates!

We're still waiting for the audiology appointment.

Today she said her first word! "uh oh" and copied us when we said it. She also copies us when we say wow wow wow.

She points to us when she wants us and points to whatever food we have when she wants some.

Great stuff :)

Thanks Fanjo! I'm hoping this is the start of her speaking now that she has walking mastered.

How is your daughter doing?

She sounds amazing. I have 9 grandchildren 4 of whom did a lot of 'flapping' up to age 2ish. One continued well into school and only when other dc comment did she stop by clasping her hands together when excited. She is extremely sociable, very bright and musical. She is 13 now, just back from a school trip to Venice. Her younger brother also flapped his hands, his speech was very slow indeed. He is now 10 and usually controls the flapping. He is articulate, sporty and popular. He took part in a schools gala at the Albert Hall this weekend. Ouur other two 'flappers' stopped by age 2.5. I have seen toe walking, lack of eye contact, refusal to point or wave etc etc all in dc who have turned out to be NT. We do have one dgs with ASD he lives in Canada and was dx early. He showed none of the signs above though he did lose some words. He became obsessive over lining up toys, he had awful bouts of screaming if his routine was disrupted. He is now 8 and can talk and interact with other dc and adults he knows. I have a lovely video clip of him helping a classmate to write.
Honestly your dd sounds lovely and developing well.

LittleElf is 17 months next week and still no words. The hearing test was today and her hearing is fine. The doctor said on paper he'd be thinking ASD but after me updating the with her progress, meeting her and watching her interact he says that it's unlikely.

The past few days I've been hearing her say 'muh' and she looked at my partner the other day and said 'da'.

She now points to things in books when I ask her and she tries to copy noises we make. And she likes to drink pretend tea out of her tea cups and the tea pot.

I took her downstairs and she pointed to Steven Mulhern on Catchphrase so I take it she likes him.
