Anyone else's baby hate cuddling?

DS is a very independent little boy, and has never really liked being held, even by me and his daddy. But he's 1 year old now and still simply will not sit with us or allow us to cuddle him. He's always been on the move and I'm not exaggerating when I say he literally doesn't sit still all day! But it makes me quite sad that I can't sit with him, have a little snuggle or occasionally rock him to sleep for the odd nap every once in a while. If you do pick him up he stays there whilst walking with him but then he struggles to get away. Is anyone else's LO similar?

You have just described my ds . Are you me ? No ? Grin

Mines 15mo now and he will climb up and give me a cuddle on his terms then go away to run mad again , so he is getting more affectionate . But if I try to cuddle him he will most often push me away . It did concern me a bit at first but he is getting better . He still won't come up and sit with me though he just wants to run mad all the time .

Glad it's not just mine majix!

If I'm lucky I'll get a very quick hold if he's just woken from a nap and is in a good mood, but i just long for some sort of affection from him! He'll occasionally try to give me his little version of a kiss (which involves putting my whole cheek in his mouth!) when were playing on the floor, but I'd love him to sit with me while I read him a book or watch a programme together. Just can't ever see it happening :(

My ds has always been a fidget, he's nearly 4 now and doesn't sit still for very long. It wasn't until he got to being a toddler that he became affectionate, he wouldn't sit on your knee for a story or to watch tv, he just used to slide off down to the floor, it was frustrating! Then he just suddenly became very cuddly and affectionate and still is. I honestly thought we'd damaged him and not held him enough as a baby or something but we hadn't. x

Ds is becoming more cuddly and affectionate as he gets older. He's nearly two and occasionally kisses me voluntarily :) At one year old I had no chance.

Loubyloulou88 · 01/02/2014 10:17

Am hoping it will get better. The only time he comes to me is when he wants me to walk him!

DS was exactly like this when he was little! Never sat still, always on the go and defo no cuddles!!!
I used to creep into his room while he was sleeping just so I could have a 5minute cuddle!!

He is 3 now and soooooooo cuddly, he will just come over and give me a big kiss and tell me he loves me.
Give it time, you will have lots and lots of cuddles as he gets older Smile

I know how you feel Lou id love ds to sit with me too . I read him a bedtime story at night and he used to just jump up and try to pull the book off me and roll about laughing . But the past week or so he has been lying listening to it . Well lying still at least Grin so slowly he is getting better .

To sneak a cuddle I usually lift him into my bed when he stirs in the morning and lie and have a wee cuddle for a while before he wants up .

Yep my DS has always shied away from cuddles! whereas DD can't get enough of them. The only time I get a cuddle (of sorts) is when he wants me to pick him up and carry him as he's tired of walking, or when he sees a dog coming as he doesn't like them. I get cuddles by tickling him and smothering him in kisses! He thinks it's funny to run away whenever anyone asks him for a cuddle. Even when he was a baby, he didn't like being held/rocked to sleep. I guess it's just the way he is.

My dd was like this as a baby til about 18 months, now she's not far off 3 and loves cuddles, maybe it was the appearance of a baby brother (competition!) when she was 15 months that did this?!

teacher123 · 01/02/2014 19:37

DS is now 21 months old and I used to despair as he was so uncuddly! I can't remember when it changed, but now he is very affectionate and clambers all over me. He still won't come and sit on my knee very often, but if I sit on the floor, he will come and snuggle up, and then do some wrestling!

bruffin · 01/02/2014 19:53

My dd is 16 now but exactly like that as a baby. She was more intetested on whatvwas going on about. She wouldnt co sleep either. She has grown to be a lovely kind girl. She is very bright and bubbly. Sometimes she will lie with her head on my shoulder, when she decides she wants a bonding session watching Glee.. My ds 18 is a lot more cuddly.
Dd wouldnt sit still to be read to either but virtually taught herself to read in the end.

Purplehonesty · 01/02/2014 20:03

Yep ds was just like that. Didn't get any better til he was about 3 and now he loves a good cuddle. Especially about 3am!

jaybirdsinginginthedeadofnight · 01/02/2014 20:22

DD 22months was like this until a few months ago, now she will give hugs unprompted, and will give kisses if we ask her, but only when she feels she wants to! It used to annoy/worry me but now her limited kisses are even more special Grin Just her personality I guess.

BotBotticelli · 01/02/2014 21:10

My DS is 14mo and at 12mo he was just like your son, OP. No cuddles at all. Has been like this his whole little life. Very depressing when all you want is a nice sit down snuggle on the sofa.

However....in the last week or so DS has literally just started coming up to me and DH if we are sat on the floor and sort of nuzzling his head into our laps and smiling. Sort of like bundling us! We think this is his version of a cuddle and it has come totally out of the blue and is absolutely lovely :-)

So don't give up hope - your cuddles might start happening soon too!

MJP1 · 01/02/2014 21:20

My nearly 1 year old is the least cuddly baby I know, very independant and not a lover of cuddles at all, I sneak them in all the time when she is in the Ergo, as she cannot push away from me, she does enjoy kisses and tickles though. I wish she was more cuddly here's hoping!

Glad to hear from lots of other mummy's with similar children. You've all given me hope that he will learn to show me some love! Just got to be patient now Smile x
