20mo hitting & hair pulling

It's really random. The past week or so she has been doing it on and off.

Sometimes if dd1 has a toy she wants or if they just aren't playing nice. She'll hit her or pull her hair.

She does it even if nothing has happened. Walk up to her and smack her in the face, pull hair or grab her cheek.

Haven't had this before. And don't remember dd1 doing this.. She didn't have sibling dd2 then though. And plus each one is different

I just feel bad! I immediately get her to apologise, kiss & cuddle dd1. Some sometimes it's non stop. And I have to just remove her away. Like yesterday she's grabbed her eye and cut it all.

It's bonkers as it's just odd timing. They usually and up until now have played so beautifully and still do. She just has lash outs for sometimes no reason

I've just posted something similar looking for advice. Maybe we can take comfort in that if ours are doing it others probably are too!! I was wondering if it was a language/communication thing. My DD is only 17 months so I guess at their respective ages when you don't have the words you want to use a slap or similar is a sure fire way to get your point across!!??!!

I think that's the main cause. She does it when happy or sad but I guess they're still learning what emotions are. It's just hard when I don't want to keep telling her off if it'll make it worse but then poor dd just gets wolloped or pulled hair. So really I just tell her each time and say no hitting, be gentle, say sorry. Which she will do but then repeat five mins later :/

Poor dd1 has got a face full of scratches with another added just now. Been fine all day as when dd2 attempts it I've just said oh yes! High five! Well done! But dd1 got another cut on her eye now
