Smearing her poo in her cot

Hi,

My daughter has just started investigating the contents if her nappy in her cot and smearing it all over herself, the cot and her toys!

I've had a read online and the advice seems to be to put her sleep suit on backwards so she can't get in there, giving her some play do, clay, messy play and ultimately a cold bath to wash it off if all above fails. The "little keeper" sleep suits look good but I can't find anyone in uk who stocks them, and postage from US is a bit high...

Any other thoughts/suggestions/advice?

Did you mean a sleep bag/ grobag?
I imagine that would work. My DD's were unable to operate zips and/ or poppers until quite late on.
Try not to show too much horror (hard as it must be) when she does do it. Good luck Smile

Try putting a waterproof wrap over her nappy, the kind you use for cloth nappies. I have some with poppers that DS can't undo.
Or a grobag.

Doitnicelyplease · 22/01/2014 17:34

My DD1 did this a couple of times, we used the backwards sleepers for a few months it did the trick, until she grew out of it. I brought a special one online but also found if you buy a zip up sleeper and cut the feet off it, it will work just as well.

When does this happen? Presumably she is awake and not being supervised.
Just make sure she is not awake with a full nappy when she is in her cot.

Why would anyone want to give a baby a cold bath!!

Gremlingirl · 22/01/2014 17:47

Couldn't you just put a normal sleep suit (one of the ones like pyjamas but with feet) on backwards, then there would be no access for wandering little hands?

Fairylea · 22/01/2014 17:50

Definitely not a cold bath!!

The proper branded grobags are good as they have a popper but over the zip which might help.

I'd also get a baby monitor (if you don't already) so you can hear when she's awake more b easily and stop her before she does it.

Jemimapuddlemuck · 22/01/2014 17:51

Why a cold bath?! As punishment? That's awful.

TheGreatHunt · 22/01/2014 20:01

A cold bath?!

Horrid thing to suggest.

The little sleepers keepers preserved my sanity when ds2 could not stop penis fiddling in his sleep and was consequently peeing out of the side of his nappy multiple times every night. Yes they were expensive and a pain to import but we bought two and they lasted from age two until he was dry at night. I still have them in the cupboard and they're in good condition in case ds3 ever decided to indulge in similar antics. I say buy them - pop smearing is so much worse than wee and I found the constant stinky wee unbearable!

bberry · 23/01/2014 21:11

I think the cold (ok, room temperature) bath is more to do with the child linking the poo smearing and subsequent washing off with it and not wanting it, rather than linking to a hot lovely bath, not as a punishment, and as I said, it is a last resort measure, or so I have read.

Thanks, I will swallow the cost and order a couple of the sleeper suits from USA.

I did have success with the reversed sleep suit last night, and a first wee in her potty this morning Grin

Just not nice seeing your angel with poo all round her mouth and face Hmm

sounds like a punishment to me bberry.

Fairylea · 24/01/2014 12:39

It's definitely a punishment. It's making it less desirable by doing something not so nice in response. That's a punishment.

Jemimapuddlemuck · 24/01/2014 12:53

I suggest anyone who does consider doing that tries having a cold bath themselves in the middle of the night/first thing in the morning and then decides whether it's a punishment or not...

TheFutureMrsB · 24/01/2014 13:24

I stitched up my DS's sleepsuits up to the last three poppers, I could easily slide him into it but he couldn't get it off, he decided to decorate his new cot bed the very same day I bought it Hmm

deakymom · 24/01/2014 23:10

cold bath would set the poo wouldn't it?

atthestrokeoftwelve · 25/01/2014 07:46

Cold bath sounds horiffic! I think social services would take some interest in that.
