Can anyone tell me if their 5/6 year old boys are like this, or am I just lucky??!! (Not). My ds has just turned 6 and he goes through definite 'cranky' moods, for no apparent reason. He's been like this for a while now. One minute he's happy and chatting, and the next minute he can be surly & unresponsive. One of the things that really bothers me at the moment, is that sometimes when we have friends or relatives over it can be a real effort getting him to say 'hello' or 'goodbye', or even be sociable to them. I'm talking about adults of course, because he's always happy to see other children.
Talking to him when he gets like this is like pulling teeth - he just doesn't seem to want to acknowlege people even though I've told him to be polite, etc etc. He will do it if I threaten & cajole him (not in front of anyone), but not without a bit of 'attitude' first. He really is like a teenager already. Other times he can be a very sunny, happy personality so I'm wondering whether this is a normal phase that they go through.
DH has two adult sons and when I think of them as boys, I can't remember them being moody & unwilling to acknowledge adults the way my ds does.... unless I just never saw them do it. Thanks - would appreciate some thoughts on this.
