14month old upset at Teletubbies!

My DS who is 14 months old has been loving his Teletubbies DVDs for the last 6 months. But just this week when he watches this scene in Naughty Noo Noo, where the Teletubbies get their custard and Dipsy spills it, he starts screaming and crying! It's happened about 4 times now in this exact scene!!! I'd love to know what he is thinking and how he came across getting upset at this? Nightmare maybe??!

Anyone else's toddlers do funny things like this?

Maybe you yelled at him when he spilt his petit filous for the 15th time that week?

Been there done that, not judging, just offering an idea

Agree with Suzy. In fact my DD did a similar thing with same episode......

Turns out it was because my Dad and DP, who were feeding her when i was at work are quite averse to mess, and whilst they didnt "shout" at her, they were really quite apparent with their displeasure at the mess.

She also ended up being scared of our Noo Noo.....

Erm... it was one of DS's favourite episodes...

Have to say that DS was so ridiculously careful of not getting dirty when he was that age, that the very few times he dared to make a mess... we applauded him!

DD at that age always used to scream at the episode (on the telly) where this flying carouselt thing comes in and a bear starts tap dancing.
No idea where it came from either.
She is frightened of balloons at the moment.

Chandra · 30/07/2006 08:54

Funny that you mention about the carousel, DS used to get very scared with the carousel, he didn't cry but run to my arms when he had to watch it! (guess he didn't like anything new in Teletubbyland, he also was scared at seeing the new Chrismas tree)

The 'horror scene' came on today while my DH was looking after DS (thank goodness I got a sleep-in today!). Lots of screaming and crying again, even in anticipation to it! And when the tele custard spilt on the ground, DS actually jerked in shock! So it must have given him a horrible shock one day, and he now has associated it with a bad thing and always cries...(pavlov's dog's theory!!).

I was talking to my younger cousin who's 9 and she also said when she was little she had nightmares about Noo Noo...

Hmmm, let's start some conspiracy theories on Teletubbies!!!

one of mine was terrified of the noonoo (can't remember which child )

ds was terrified of the bloke on the art programme (can't remember the name) who used to shout 'Big Picture' 'Little Picture' - he used to run and hide behind the couch crying!

I'm sure a lot of these fears are arbitrary. I remind dd and ds about this now and they think it is v funny that they were scared!

Jimjams2 · 30/07/2006 13:37

ds1 shrieks and screams and howls at parts of big cook little cook. No idea why.
He loved the growling lion thing on teletubbies when he was little, had him in stitches. It made ds2 and ds3 cry.

when dd2 was younger cant remember how old she was she used to scream the house down when map came on (dora the explorer) and when art attack was on

Mercy · 30/07/2006 16:40

dd used to be scared of the Noo Noo and the episode which has the lion and the bear in it (both of which I could understand) but she used to really cry when the birds would land on the tree - if you can remember that bit.

ds is only scared of Fireman Sam and screams 'don't like, don't like!' and runs from the room

aDAdOnMumsnet · 30/07/2006 16:54

Yep it was the noonoo for my dd too, as well as the one where the valley fills up with water and the boat appears. It happened once she'd turned 2, prior to that loved it.

futurity · 30/07/2006 17:02

DS1 hated when the tubby toast machine went out of control (on video episode)...he would scream the place down. DS2 doesn't like the bear one either...he doesn't cry he just gets agitated and runs to me shaking!
