my little boy has slept through the night since he was about 8 weeks, however he has always 'woke up' crying (he doesn't actually wake up, his eyes are still closed) and has always been easily settled. This usually happens on average 3 times a night but always within the first 3 hours of sleep. but around Christmas and new year we had teething, being poorly, growth spurt then teething again so his sleep pattern was a mess. about a week ago things got back to normal (sleep at 8pm and waking between 6-7 for breakfast), but he now wakes up at 4am and this is it, wide awake and ready for food. I am starting to wean him, only on baby porridge at the mo. generally during the day he naps well and eats well.
is this still on going from his growth spurt and or sleep regression?
or have I just been spoilt from his previous sleep pattern ?

just really want other peoples experience or advice

thanks

Lordy I don't envy you. My first DS was forever hungry and we went through something similar. To be honest once DS reached 5 months he just didn't want to nap (or not as much) - you'd put him down for a sleep after his milk or porridge and he'd just lie there wide awake, as if waiting to be entertained.

It's a balancing act as you don't want an irritable grumpy baby, but could you cut down on the naps taken during the day? Either cut one out or shorten them? I know it's less time to get things done, but perhaps if you can keep your little one active then he'll sleep through at night.

We also found that DS was just a hungry baby and upping his portions a little helped him to sleep through.

Take care.
