Sleep help!

My 17 month old has been screaming herself hoarse for nearly an hour!! I've been going in regularly, setting a timer for a minute longer each time but she is still getting up and crying as soon as I walk out of the room.

It's breaking my heart listening to her but she will not sleep. What can I do?

Have you tried just sitting in the room? how does she usually get to sleep?

The last few nights we have tried the same sort of thing but she has finally gone off with DH standing outside the door shushing her.

We have tried sitting in with her & yesterday I was in there for an hour & she just kept standing up and singing.

She is asleep now but I feel utterly broken as she pretty much cried herself to sleep :-(
