5 month old fits in 0-3?

My DD was born only 1 day early and weighed a tiny 5lb 14. She didn't even fit in tiny baby clothes. Shes now 5 months old and she still only fits in 0-3, and they arent snug either. She seems fine, from what I know of. But I'm worried shes not drinking enough for her to grow? She gets fed everytime shes hungry she goes through 6 4oz bottles a day and up to 3 of a night.(2 in the early morning quite close together as she sleeps through) is that enough for her?

She's quite strong, especially in the legs and is good at supporting herself when I stand her up. On her tummy she lifts her front up and she's learng and playing well. Shes actually very clever and is teething atm but im worried her size will make her sit up and crawl late? I'm sure shes fine and every baby had their own time but just wondering if I should be concerned of how small she is?

I personally wouldn't worry about it, all babies are different.

My twins were 5lb4 & 5lb7 when they were born and at 4 months were still in Next up to one month clothes. Now at 15 months they are in 9-12 months.

If she is gaining weight and drinking around 30oz a day she is probably fine.

My dd2 is 15 months old and is in 6-9 months clothes, she still fits in some 3-6 month clothes.

I wouldn't worry too much, I know its so much easier said than done. My dd was in tiny baby until 15 weeks. I know its so much easier to say "don't worry" than to actually not worry!

My ds is 12 weeks tomorrow and is currently laid in a 3-6 month baby grow!! Hes a tank compared to my little teeny tot!

Dd2 isn't walking yet but is walking with help from a walker and can walk if I'm holding her up so its only a matter of time. I was told by her physio (she was breech and had a few issues when first born so had to have physio for a few months) that I didn't need to worry as long as she was walking with help by 20 months.

I'm sure your dd will be just fine and ignore the people who say to you "she'll have a growth spurt soon enough" as the penguins in Madagascar say "just smileand wave bboys, just smile and wave"

BTW, dd was born at 5lb 13 at full term. No idea why, she was just small. As a comparison ds was 8lb 10!

islingtongirl · 09/01/2014 21:48

My DD was 5lb 7oz at birth, full term too - just teeny! Now at 4.5 months she has only just started in her 3-6 month clothes, but probs could have eeked out some 0-3 for a bit longer. She is just over 13lbs now.

Twoandtwohalves · 09/01/2014 21:49

DS1 was nearly 7lb but still seemed to be 3 months behind the clothing sizes. Was 6mo before in 3-6mo, 9 before 6-9mo etc. At 2.6 he was just coming out of 18-24mo clothes. He's been 25th centile pretty much forever.

DS2 was the same weight at birth, following the same centile but getting through the clothes much more quickly! I think they might have shrunk.

Sounds like she's developing brilliantly! I get why you worry, that's your job but size means nothing if everything else is fine, for starters she wouldn't sleep through if she was hungry. She sounds very cute! It is easy for people to say don't worry but she sounds very healthy and hitting milestones so enjoy! x

islingtongirl · 09/01/2014 21:52

Agree - she would be letting you know if she was still hungry! She just sounds dainty and cute Grin

My 6 yr old is still in 2-3,3-4 trousers, my 8 yr old is in 5-6 trousers- they have always been like this.

Don't worry, she sounds very healthy and it saves you a fortune on new clothes!!

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 09/01/2014 22:08

My 13month old is still in 3-6 and 6-9 month clothes and doesn't even weigh 8kilos yet.
She eats like a horse, has 10 teeth and is about to start walking.
I worried in the beginning that she was below where she was supposed to be but she is happy, healthy and has hot all of her developmental milestones just fine.

I'm sure your dc will be just fine.
It's hard not to worry though!

Thank you for all your comments. I didnt think it was anything to worry about but was just worried incase her littlness started to affect her streght, it hasnt yet though! Shes so strong bless her, she was rolling front to back at 11 weeks bless her. She seems to be doing everything so early so not worried yet but I just wanted tonprepare incase she didn't have a growth spurt and if it would affect her or not! :)

I'm currently having a battle with her, she dossnt seem to let her sleep enough during the day no matter how much I encourage her! Then its a battle to get her to bed cuz shes so tired! Shes just too clever and curious, I think she hates sleeping. Think she gets anmoyed cuz she constantly wants to be playing bless her. And chatting, she constantly babbling and giggling to herself haha!

My niece was full term 5lb 1 when she was born. Very tiny. Nothing she had fit. At 15months, she's still in 9-12 clothes and just starting to progress to 12-18. She's been fine development wise. Walking at 14 months even though she looks too small to be doing it. It's made no difference to how she's progressing. They all catch up eventually.
