What is making DS so upset?

DS (5.11) has become most clingy recently, since around the beginning of October.

Where we live is rural so the school bus picks him (and my DD) up each morning and drops them home in the evening. He has been very upset whilst waiting for the bus for a good while, but this morning we had a proper sobbing cry from him all the while I got him on and strapped him in. He's usually ok when he sees his little friend but this morning he was so upset that I almost considered getting him off and taking the day off work.

When I ask him what the problem is, he says he misses me and doesn't want to be apart from me. I called the school to see if he was alright and they said he'd come off the bus very distressed and they were trying to distract him

There's been no upset at home, school is great and he enjoys it and he's otherwise a happy little chap.

Any ideas?

Is there a helper on the bus? Someone who looks after them? I would be askling them what's going on...is someone picking on him on the bus I wonder?

Your poor DS. Can You speak to Your DD and find out if something is happening on the bus to upset him?

DD assures me he's not being bullied on the bus (she would step in and intervene if that was the case).

Poor little guy. Maybe something scared him on the bus? Can you ride the bus with him one morning?

My DD1 was very like this...she just hated being away from me. I gave her a lunchbox with a photo of us together on it and she loved that. You could get him a photo keyring and tell him when he misses you, he can rub it and know you're thinking of him at that moment....maybe put it on his zip? I also used to kiss DDs hand and say it was a magic kiss that lasted all day...and even soap and water couldn't wash it off...nothing could. She could touch it if she missed me.
