14 month old keeps putting his fingers in my mouth - what's that all about?

just wondered, really, not worried at all.

he feels around for a while, then twangs his fingers against my teeth. mostly it's during quiet times like feeding before bed.

wants to be a dentist when he grows up.
My dd does it too, just curiosity I think.

SenoraPostrophe · 25/07/2006 18:12

ds and dd did it too. I think I read somewhere it's a sign of affection (not quite sure why!)

CarolinaMoose · 25/07/2006 18:15

awwwww! this thread's reminded me that ds used to do that

I spose he was around that age then. He's 21mo now and hasn't done it for ages...

lummox · 25/07/2006 18:59

a dentist - aarrgh say it isn't so.

i think i'll go with the exporing explanation with a bit of affection thrown in (will make it easier when he starts twanging my teeth).

But lummox , they earn pots of money and think how useful it would be having one in the family if you needed an emergency filling.
You'd have to make sure you were nice to him though so that he didn't grow up with repressed hostility towards you.

Like the idea it's a sign of affection

lummox · 25/07/2006 20:08

hmm, pots of money good, but continuous risk of emergency dental surgery very, very bad.

may encourage him towards the cat's mouth, as have always liked the idea of a vet in the family.

its a sign of affection.

Ds used to do this. Sharp little nails poking away at my gums. As affectionate gestures go, I have to say, it's not really up there with the best of 'em....
