I know you shouldnt compare babies but...

I need some reassurance that my 5mo is developing ok. He will be 22wks in a few days and doesn't roll over yet. He can hold his head up on his tummy but isn't pushing up on his arms yet. He hates laying down, front or back and so doesn't spend as much time on the floor as id like him to.

He also has reflux so has to stay upright for quite a while after feeds which means sometimes i struggle to find awake time to just lay him down on the mat. He has also been poorly recently and so had about 2 weeks where he didn't really get any mat time at all.

He is good with his head though and although he cant do it unaided yet, really wants to sit up. One other point is that he has only in the last few weeks started playing with his feet loads and i know this is supposed to be a 3mo behaviour.

I know a couple of other babies who are a few weeks younger than him and they both seem a bit more advanced. Although my DN never rolled over and only did this once fully mobile so i know that not all babies do everything at the same time.

First baby, can you tell?!

I really wouldn't worry. My son had barely any tummy time because of reflux/CMPA. He rolled over a few times at around 5 months, but then didn't bother again for weeks and was sitting unaided before he got the hang of rolling properly - don't think he read the chapter on the order of milestones!

He's 9m now, and still doesn't giggle properly - just does a weird 1 second laugh that sounds exactly like Catherine Tate's Nan!

Hi, it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about, 5 months is still really young. I had exactly the same issue re reflux (having to keep baby upright) v mat/tummy time. Mine hated lying down. As soon as she learnt to sit upright (at 7 months) she was much happier. I think she's going to be a bottom shuffler!

I know it's hard not to compare. My baby is the only one like this in my group of friends' babies. So I can't sympathise with you!

DS has suspected CMPA too.

He does roll onto his side but then his arms and legs are in the way and he seems happy enough with getting that far. Although he has been able to do this almost from birth so it doesn't seem like a development if that makes sense.

Dd1 didn't roll over until she saw a use for it-that was she wanted to roll over so she could crawl. She didn't crawl until 9 months-my other two were walking at that age. She had no developmental issues at all.

Nothing to worry about and with reflux you just have to do what you can to get through it. My DS is a big baby and he did not bear weight on his legs until 6 months (supposed to be a 2 month old behaviour) and he only rolled from back to front at 11 months! He still struggles with rolling this way but is crawling and cruising fine (again a bit later at 10.5 months and 11 months respectively). I read a great quote somewhere that put my mind at ease "timing varies, progression does't). As long as he is progressing steadily ( and it sounds like he will be sitting soon) you do not need to worry he will get there when he is ready.
