DS is about to turn 3. Wondering what's normal language wise for that age? Any info on what's expected would be great.

My son is three and he has trouble with his speech.

Issues they assessed were

Not knowing opposites, big/little up/down

Not being able to follow two commands, like put the silver car in the red box

Not knowing colours

Not knowing verbs like saying 'blocksing' instead of 'building'

Not joining sentences together.

Www.talkingpoint.org has a good ages and stages section

DC2 just turned three, still a big lisp but other than that fine (I think). speaks in sentences, uses pronouns (you, I, mine etc) correctly. uses past tense. different wh-questions. can tell me in quiet some detail what he did at nursery... can explain things (just said "mummy, your hands are cold because you were outside, weren't you?").
this sort of things.

DS struggles with I/me/mine/my. His pronunciation is quite off with many words but he can start conversations/describe his day. He can't recognise any colours but is good at identifying other things.

My dd is two and a half and can join sentences together, use pronouns, speak in the past tense, answer questions and ask questions. In the past week has used the words complicated, difficult, dangerous and either correctly.

My DS is 3.3. He can use sentences with various clauses and tenses, and generally hold a conversation. He will say things like 'If I went outside then I would get cold'.

He mixes up genders sometimes (using 'he' instead of 'her'), and also often doubles up on his past tenses ('I tolded Daddy about that' 'I falleded over').

Does your DS go to pre-school yet? They would be able to tell you what to expect.

He is just about to start preschool.

I'm going to look at the website mentioned above.

DD1 is 2.8 - 3 in April. She can talk in longish sentences eg 'Did you get that from the second hand shop?' She knows about 7 colours, can count to 6, says some longer words such as 'awkward'. Uses the word dangerous a lot (I say it a lot about the things her 11 month old sister does!).

She doesn't talk much about the past or future or say yesterday or tomorrow. She does say she remembers things such as an outing in the past or a person she met. She asks questions about everything. I think her speech is about average for her age.
