Too Much Sleep?

I don't know if I am worried about this as such, more wondering if its just a normal phase?

DD is normally at nursery full time, she is 18 mo and so we wake her up every morning at 7am, she then has a nap at nursery on average 90mins. She went through à spell lasting 2months in the Autumn where she would be awake crying for 2hrs in the middle if the night, which upon reflection could have been over tiredness.

Ever since the break up for the Xmas hols she has been sleeping for 14 to 15 hrs a night plus a 2+hr nap in the afternoon.

Is she just catching up on sleep ? Or could there me another reason why she us sleeping so much?

She is very active during the day and never sits still!

Sounds like she's just catching up on sleep in the holidays. Maybe she's having a growth spurt too. As long as she's alert and ok in herself during the day I wouldn't worry and just let her have a restful time :)

My 2.5 yr old is doing the same. We think that not being woken up by house noise as we're not getting up for work is part of it, but his language skills are coming on leaps & bounds. The same thing happened last Xmas & when were on summer holiday. Maybe he just needs a 6 monthly catch up like we do!

Yep, dd is 15 months and sleeping from 7pm - 9am then at least a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. She's normally up about 6:20am when our alarms go off to get up for work so I think she just likes a lie in as much as me.

Thanks peeps, feel better now. I wasn't really doubting it more looking for reassurance!

Next Monday when we are all back at work and childcare is going to be painful!

I had the same thing and whilst dd (17 months) has been a bit ill it has still been out of character to sleep that much. (She has been averaging 15 hours a day compared to about 13.5 normally.) I have been enjoying the lay ins though and next week will be tough for us all.

I do think nursery takes it out of them and she never sleeps as much during the day on nursery days.

Same thing here too, with both 20mo and 4.7 yo, they're both sleeping 6.30pm-8-9am and the 20mo has a 2hr+ nap too. Usually ds2 barely sleeps at nursery and wakes about 7-7.30am.

I'm enjoying the extra lie in and also dreading next week's back to school/nursery/work.
