toddler pulling his tongue

Sounds weird but he's been doing it for a couple of weeks now. He's literally pulling his tongue, sometimes so hard that he's making himself gag and at times actually vomiting. I keep checking in this mouth, maybe there's a hair in there, but no. It's been going on too long to ignore now. Could it be something to do with teething? I'm perplexed!!

I'd take him for check up at drs just incase its mucus that you can't see - I'm sure you know that thick sticky sensation I mean that annoys the heck out of you & generally ends with some antibiotics to clear

The only other thing I can think of it started as a comfort thing & now becoming habit?

Hope you get some more suggestions soon & get to the bottow of it.

Thanks shabbie, thanks for replying, you might have a point about mucous. It's defo not a comfort thing as he is in distress when he's doing it. It's really as if he has a hair in his mouth that he's trying to get out. We're visiting family and far from our gp so will have to wait to have him seen.

Does anyone else have any other ideas as to what it could be? My son is doing it right now as I type, it's constant.
