My 7 year old DD has a tendency towards obsessively fixating on particular other girls for months at a time. She talks about them Non-stop, wants to be with them all the time, cries when they aren't there, tries to be like them. It's very, very intense. She is currently obsessed with a 14 year old cousin we spent Christmas with. She spent the whole Christmas following this girl round, hugging her, kissing her, literally calling out her name repeatedly and mournfully when the girl's attention was elsewhere. Last night we returned home and she cried for three hours at being parted.

Has anyone else experienced this? How do you handle it? Is it normal? I'm just a bit taken aback by the intensity.

I hardly got to see my cousins when I was younger so every time I did see them I wanted to be with them non stop. I don't think it's anything to worry about but if you're concerned just explain people need their personal space too. Maybe she just idolises older girls?

Sorry for laughing but thats adorable.

As I recall, I was like that when I was younger. It might just mean she's very passionate. You could try redirecting it on to fictional characters so you don't get the real life fallout. There are a lot more strong female characters around these days to pick from.
