Left handed problem

Hi I have a two year old son who is begining to want to do drawing colouring and painting, which I would like us to do together sometimes, I have a worry you see I am left handed and my son likes to us his right hand most of the time ( I allways let he use which hand he wants) How can I teach him to enjoy this. I am getting a little worried about this and would like to play with my son and not worry. Any ideas

not quite sure I understand your problem. But if a 2 year old leans towards using his right hand as a prefered choice then he is likly to be right handed.

It will prob be easier for your right handed child in a RH dominant world than it was for you to learn things and everything else was designed for RH.

I am trying to remember when I could tell left from right and I think it was some time after I started school. Maybe your child won't notice the differences that are so obvious to you. I think the instinct of doing something in the hand that feels 'right' is quite strong. Can you remember back to what you found frustrating when you were younger and were not just due to the equipment being the wrong way round? You might be able to make use of your own ability to mirror image.

No deep insight as DH and I are RH'ed and ds seems to be going the same way.

I'm R-handed with two L-handed children but it's never really been a problem. I'd just let your chld do what feels comfortable for them.

I'm left handed too and both my children are right handed, but it really hasn't presented us with any difficulties. My 5 yr old hasn't even commented on it (and believe me she likes to comment on most everything else!) I agree, I think the natural tendency towards using the preferred hand overrides just seeing which hand other people use...just let ds do his thing like you have been, hand him things like pencils and paintbrushes to his midline and see which hand he grabs it with. It really doesn't matter if he switches hands now and then... Just enjoy playing together and try to stop worrying! Chances are he isn't even aware of the differences you are so concerned about!

PS My brother and I are both LH and my mum and dad both RH...never bothered me! I remember Mum did teach me to knit by sitting opposite me...

I'm left handed and have 2 right handed children. Just let them pick up the pens and get on with it. Don't worry. R
