Just 3 year old wont ever play on his own - common phase?

My just 3 year old DS just won't play on his own. He moves from one thing to another in the space of 5 minutes and the arrives at your side. If you try to tell him you'll be along in a minute, he pulls on you and screams 'play with me,' sometimes to the point where he is crying hard.

We've tried to set him up and then gently leave him, warn him that we have things to do and he has to play on his own. We do involve him in things we do. But I feel we are flaying with strategies

And I am really worried its not just a phase but something that he won't pass through. Am I being ridiculous? Just don't notice it with his peers

He's lovely, bright and very sociable

Any thoughts welcome.

No help I am afraid but my ds 2.11 is the same. Drives me mad. He plays for 5 mins on his own if I am in the room but if I leave the room he follows me.

He says mummy play with me all day long and talks non stop it is draining at times. I am hoping it is just a phase. He is a mummy boy and says he loves me all the time.

I play with him and give him one to one attention so it's not as if he is trying to get attention and is starved of it. I think somewhere I have got the balance wrong.

Any way I am sorry to be no help but wanted you to know you are not alone.

I think it's a phase my very nearly 4 year old is gettinguch better at playing on her own, but only when I am busy doing my drawing or sonething. Sometimes she will draw/craft right alongside me but if she's had a enough of that she will go off and play now. She won't let me relax without bugging me though, like sit on the sofa. Wink
