7yr old scared something bad will happen

My 7 yr old ds said to me when he went to bed tonight that he was scared. When I asked what about he said he didn't know, just something bad happening. I asked him if he felt this during the day or just when he was in bed and he said when he is just sitting not doing anything. I'm not sure if it's just because he was in bed in the dark as he is very lively and appears fine during the day. Should I mention it again or just see what happens. Don't want to make a big deal of it but would hate him to be feeling anxious.

No. Don't mention it again. Many/most kids feel some level of fear or insecurity as they grow more aware.

Don't over-question him...just reassure when he tells you things.

I agree not to draw attention to it.

But perhaps something happened at school, or he saw something on TV, that unsettled him. Give him plenty of comfort and support (which I'm sure you do anyway), avoid confrontations or discipline for trivial matters, and keep alert to anything else he may say or do that might point to some particular anxiety.

Thanks. I just left it today and he seemed fine.
