5 days since LO's last poo - help!

LO is six months old. We have just started introducing solids and he's having a tiny amount of mashed up fruit or veg once a day. It must be a really tiny amount as most ends up on his clothes/the floor. He hasn't pooed side Monday morning (5 days). Should I be worried or doing anything to bring on the inevitable poo avalanche?

Make sure he is getting enough fluid. Water is very important once started weaning.

How often does he normally poo? Is he uncomfortable?

Don't give banana if you are, it bungs them up. Try prunes and a little bit of apple juice to see if that gets him going. Tummy massage and leg cycling too.

If he hasn't gone by Monday despite this, go to the docs and they can give lactulose.

Thanks Umicar. I'm still BFing on demand and trying to offer water from a sippy cup with the solids. He hasn't figured out how to drink from it yet but I've been trying to drip drops into his mouth. He's producing wet nappies, but do you think I should be trying to get more water into him? He's also teething, in case that has a bearing on it.

Noblegiraffe he normally poos once a day like clockwork. I have been giving him banana though, so that must be the culprit! I'll go and get some prunes now - thank you for your help!

Don't worry about getting water into him, your BM should provide enough fluid but do keep offering the sippy cup when you offer solids, he will get the hang of it soon Xmas Smile

You could always try some water dense foods such as cauliflower and broccolli, soup, jelly and melon. Try to avoid apple, pear, sweet potato and banana for a few days. If you have been mixing his food with baby rice I'd stick it in the bin not offer that for a few days either Xmas Smile

Jingle Oh dear - apple, pear, sweet potato and banana - this has been his diet for the past week! I've cemented up his bowels, haven't I? Blush

Off to fill him with prunes now - he has been doing some deeply unpleasant farts this morning, so I'm hoping the poo explosion isn't too far away.

A bit of tummy massage should help two. And "bicycling" the legs

Jinglejohnsjulie · 14/12/2013 15:32

Like others have said, as long as he's not in discomfort I shouldn't worry too much, but yes do give those foods a miss for a few says Xmas Smile

Some very good advice on here already including tummy massage, a bath might help and how about a nice curry? Xmas Smile

Have you found the MN weaning discussion board and weaning pages yet Biped? You might also like so how do we get started with solids? and the starting soluds nhs guidelines are useful.
