At what age did your baby roll?

My dd is 6 months old. Apart from a few 'accidental' rolls from her tummy to her back, she hasn't rolled at all. She also shows no interest in rolling (she doesn't like being on her tummy). Developmentally she seems fine, and she can almost sit up without support (can manage about ten seconds without falling over). However I am a little concerned that she shows no interest in rolling. When did everyone elses babies roll? Thanks!

My DS is the same - 7 months and still not. Like your dd, everything else seems fine and he is starting to try to crawl so I've decided not to worry. He is very sociable and is more interested in seeing people (and making sure they are watching him!). So he has been sitting for a while. He just seems to have no great motivation to roll!

Babies are all different! My ds1 could stand unaided before he could sit properly!! Ds2 is currently 7mo and couldn't care less about sitting, he's too busy trying to get around!

I have 2 friends with babies very close in age to my ds2, both of them mastered sitting months ago but have no interest at all in rolling Smile

Don't fret!

My baby was very similar and I found it worrying too. No interest in rolling/twisting round at all. From memory he started rolling back to front at 9 months, however I remember he pulled himself up to standing on the very same day. He was walking just before his first birthday.

All of mine could roll by 14 weeks. Ds1 walked at. 9 months, Ds2 walked at 10 months, DD was a lazy little miss and didn't bother walking until 17 months. I came to the conclusion that they all develop at their own pac e.

Thank you! My mind has been put at rest now. I'm just seeing all my friends with babies younger than DD, and their babies are rolling and was starting to worry a teeny bit (first time mum - can you tell? Grin)

I think with what babies do when depends on what they want to do ifyswim? dd1 rolled ridiculously early (3 months-ish) but its because she was desperate to sleep on her front. Dd2 wasn't bothered and rolled later (though can't remember when tbh!)

Neither of mine sat early because until they were feeding themselves they didn't see the point. They also both cruised/ crawled for ages because it was easier than trying to walk, others just stand up one day. Its their personality shining through Wink

DS rolled at 4.5 months.

DD rolled at 11.5 months.

They both walked at 15 months and at 8 and 10 they both do all the moving they need to :)

ChazDingle · 13/12/2013 20:15

don't worry about it, rolling is not a milestone, some babies never roll. The same way crawling is not a milestone as some babies don't crawl before walking. My DS is now 3.5 and he never rolled, obviously he can now but he didn't do it as a seperate stage before walking except a few times accidently. Like you i was worried at the time.

Dogsmom · 13/12/2013 22:28

My dd rolled at 6 months once then didn't bother again until last week when she turned 9 months, she literally did it out of the blue and now rolls all around the floor.

PenguinsDontEatStollen · 13/12/2013 22:30

No idea, but way later than they could sit up (which was about six months).

And for a good while they would fall over from sitting (onto cushions hopefully) and be stranded on their back like turtles. I am obviously a bad mother, as i found that funny.

ameliarose2012 · 13/12/2013 22:37

My DD never did! I wasted so many hours placing toys just out of her reach, but she never cared! She was quite happy on her back. She does everything back to front, and walked before she could pull herself up! She didn't get moving at all til she walked a week before her first birthday, but then we had to get her shoes within the same week cos once she started she developed all at once! Now she's 18mo and doesn't stop Smile

DD rolled once at about four months I think. Then she showed absolutely no interest until long after she was sitting. She also never crawled, she bottom shuffled, so no need to roll to get onto knees. She rolls just fine now at 17months (and can crawl!). They all do their own thing. :)
