7 week old awake for much of the night

last night my 7 week old was awake between 5pm and midnight, then between 3 and 4.30am ,then again between 5 and 6.45am .for some of the time he's unsettled and at other times he's simply wide awake. Any ideas? It's like this most nights and it's driving me and DH potty. Our 23 month old wakes up between 6 and 7am so I spend the day desperate for sleep.

My fourteen week old did this at around 7 weeks but he's stopped now. He was really windy, I think, so he is now on baby gaviscon and he gets infacol before every feed. Not sure if that's what did it, or if he just grew out of it.

I sympathise..... It's exhausting ! I have 5 children, the youngest is 8 months sometimes is seems if his eyes are open so is his mouth.... Either feeding or crying! However I've come to realise babies do whatever they want, whenever they want to. 7 weeks is still really early days I think. Even though sleeping may be impossible for you, can you cuddle up with older child, put film on when baby sleeps, a rest is not sleep but it's better than nothing. X

Hate to say it but my 21 week old is still doing that! I've concluded that 4 hours sleep in a row is a bonus! Fx it changes for both of us!

What seems to have worked for us is bringing him upstairs for nappy change and putting in clean sleepsuit whenever he has a pause in cluster feeding, normally around 9pm, then doing last feed in low light upstairs, holding him upright (mild reflux) til he's fast asleep then gentle transfer into cot pre warmed with hot water bottle (obviously we take that out before he goes in!). Been doing this since 6 week growth spurt and can get anywhere from 5-7 hours most nights. He's 10 weeks now.
Hope you soon see an improvement, sleep deprivation is terrible xxxx

It does sound exhausting but completely normal. This has a few tips on dealing with a toddler and tiredness and you might find 31 ways to get your baby to sleep and stay asleep helpful too Smile
