breaking the bottle habit?

DS is 2 next month and we still often have at least one or two night wakings, he wont go back to sleep without his "BUP"-screams and cries for hours and wont resettle no matter what we do. No amount of shushing, patting, CIO, CC, co sleeping, signing rocking seems to work.

He goes to sleep with a bottle but is quite often awake after he finishes it, I hear him chuntering away so I know he can self settle.

The CM manages to get him off for naptime by leaving him in a pushchair and rocking him a bit (about 5 mins) but this doesn't seem to work for me 2 hours I rocked him one day, one bottle later he was asleep within minutes.

The bottle is now affecting his appetite in the day, i'm worried about his teeth, the broken nights are doing my head in after this long and he's now started asking for another one before he goes to sleep so he needs nappy changes once or twice a night or he wakes soaked through.

I have swapped the bottle for water, I have reduced the amount over time. I have tried to go cold turkey but the anguish and exhaustion was just too much for everyone.

Advice please?

We broke DD's habit over the Christmas holidays a few years back and went cold-turkey after trying everything else.

We picked a few days when DH was off work and the lost sleep could be caught up in the day, and just went for it.

We had two nights of crying/screaming and the third night she cried for five minutes then curled up and slept through the night for the first time in six months.

You need to have full support and all/both (you and DP) be agreed that it is 100% the right thing to do.

Good luck!
