Hi everyone. My 12 month old ds has in the past couple of weeks started slapping me very hard, biting and headbutting. He's always been a biter but I think now he's doing it for attention as he waits for a reaction and laughs. Same with the slapping, headbutting and pulling hair. I say no in a firm tone without shouting and he thinks it's hilarious! He's always been such a timid, gentle soul so I don't know where this has come from! Is there anything I can do to stop it? I put him in his cot when he bites me whilst breastfeeding and he screams the house down but that hasn't taught him not to do it. He doesn't do it to anyone else either, just poor mummy :(

If he's biting whilst feeding, have you read this on kellymom?

As for the hitting etc, have a read of this.

It sounds like he's doing it for a reaction and he's getting one.

Try and be positive - teach him how to touch things gently by showing him and saying gentle. Then when he hits, hold his hands firmly and say gentle. Keep doing this and he'll get it.

Biting could be teething?

abi2790 · 11/12/2013 09:42

Well I've always thought the biting is due to teething as he does it in phases. He'd stopped doing it for ages and now he just does it all the time! He does have two molars coming through though so it could be that. As for the hitting, could there be a reason why he only does it to me? He doesn't hit his dad and family and friends all say how lovely he is. Until he gets home and then poor mummy gets slapped haha.
