I posted here in August with concerns about my then just 2 year olds speech development. I wanted to give an update to you all, as so much has changed!
We followed advice and had a hearing test (fine), and a very quick SALT assessment.
I'm so pleased to tell you that things have changed massively. Almost overnight he decided to get chatting! We now have full sentences, and he even uses "me" and "mine" correctly. Yes, its not always clear, and yes I often need to translate for others who don't see him often, but the main thing is its there and it is developing on a weekly basis. Proudest moment since he was born was hearing him sing Happy Birthday to my Mum. Lots of tears!
So, I know that for some there will be inherent problems that need professional intervention, but I wanted to say - be patient! It took time for our DS but he needed to be ready. What's clear is that all of the talking to him, reading to him and singing with him has paid off - he now reads stories with me (if not the words always, the intonation), and sings constantly.
I'm always thinking of parents going through the worry and anguish that we did, and hope you all soon get to share the joy of chatting with your little one soon enough xxxxx
