Is it just a toddler thing?
For example, he has a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles plate, and he reliably calls the turtles mummy, daddy, DS-name and DD-name (always same turtle = same person). This was turtley totally instigated by him.
If we're reading a book and you point to a person, he'll usually say it's one of us. In the book "Orange Pear Apple Bear" the bear on each page is a different person, now extended to include Nana and Grandad. Until recently they were all just Bear.

Is it just DS, or do all children do this? (familiar faces must be people I know??)

I'm not an expert but it sounds completely normal. It sounds like he is making connections between his life and the world i.e. 'Im in a family and they look like a family so that person is me and that person is the mummy' etc.

My DD did exactly the same - I found it very cute.

Yes, I think you might be right.

I didn't post because I'm worried, btw, just wondering if it's something most children do

Ah, thanks Yika.
It is cute, it's just a shame I'm the bear with the big fat pear-shape bum!

Yes, peppa and George pig are dd and her little brother.

In a charity shop dd picked up an action man figure wearing budgie smugglers and announced loudly and proudly that it was 'Daddy'!

I also found it a shame that the 'family' referred to by my DD was my XP, his new partner, and his two older children by an earlier marriage. Sometimes I would get coopted in to this family picture as a cameo if there were enough bears in the picture!!!

Im sure its nomal. My daughter does the same thing, she loves books and always points out me daddy and herself too. She does this in most books...whether its a family book or an animal book...dads normally the cow..im the sheep beepand she'll be the ladybird!

ipswichwitch · 01/12/2013 08:37

DS does this - frequently pointing at pictures of random men and announcing that they are "daddy" - usually at too volume in front of other people. Yesterday it was Ron Burgundy from Anchorman Hmm
Glad it's all normal - people will start questioning my morals!!

Any mummy is always the lady pirate in his "that's not my pirate" book Grin
