Ok so I'm really worried about my little boy. he's three and a half and he is so picky about what he eats.

he only really eats bread, crackers,, cereal, heinz spaghetti sauasages, pizza, ketchup, ice cream and peas. He drinks fruit juice, water, smoothies and milk.

He won't try anything else. He tells me anytjhing he doesn't recognise is yucky and if I do get him to put something new in his mouth he spews it right out without even trying.

one time I tried not giving him any of teh foods he likes for days, cos everyone says children won't starve themselves. Well he did. He just wouldn't eat any of the good meals I made for him with veg and rice and casserole, bananas, spinach and things. On the third day he was so hungry he made himself throw up. I had to give in and make him some cereal. I've also tried letting him help make the food, letting him steal off my plate, lettimng him pick from fridge or choose at the supermarket. I've tried ignoring him while he has tantrums at the table and aslo tried persuading him an rewarding him for trying new stuff. Nothing works.

what can i do? I want to be a good mum and feed him right but he just is so stubborn.

In haste, but cut out all juices/smoothies and offer only water. He will be filling up on liquids and therefore not be properly hungry at meal times.

Just a thought too - how are his tonsils? Does he snore? DS2 lost his appetite completely and transpired he had enormous tonsils and it was painful to swallow. now removed, he eats everything that crosses his path!

Thankyou for replying. Yeah he had tonsilitus a couple of times but is ok now. Plus he eats crisps and that would hurt his throat, right? :)

I want to try no juice but what about him getting vitamins?

Get him to help prepare the food. Try home made pizza and make faces etc with veg. Don't make it a battle and keep putting things on his plate even if he doesn't eat them so they become familiar.

It may sound very odd but does he have glue ear? We were told by consultant that if ears have fluid in the brain 'thinks' you are full.

Watching this thread with interest, as my daughter, 3.1/2 is also very picky.. I'm taking her to the gp to rule out any medical issue. I feel your stress as it's extremely stressful with meal time Hmm
