Tidying room

At what age would you see a child capable if keeping a room tidy. 6 yr old, pulls stuff out of wardrobe (when supposed to be settling) and chucks stuff around the room. Consequence is to tidy up before going out, ie putting stuff back on hangers.

My daughter is 7 and has been tidying her own room since she was 5 (with some help eg lifting large items onto shelves). But that's normal play-related tidying, not because of deliberate untidying. I would be very cross indeed if she was deliberately untidying things. Your consequence seems appropriate. If the deliberate untidying persists, I'd think about making the consequences a bit more unwelcome for your child.

Why is she up and throwing things around? Shouldn't she just be in bed reading?
