13 month old DS seeking out and hitting smaller babies :(

My (otherwise very chilled and sweet) nearly 13 month old DS seems to be fond of hitting and pushing over other babies that are the same size or smaller. Whether it's my friends' children at play dates or the other little ones at playgroup. He also keeps trying to hit our two cats (I am trying to teach/show him how to be gentle, and I also firmly say NO when he tries to pull their tails).

He doesn't do it with the older ones. Only little ones the same size or smaller. And he looks quite jealous/annoyed when he does it. He doesn't do it at nursery (as far as I know).

Do all babies of this age do this?! Am I engaging in pointless PFB fretting or is there something I can do to show him that hitting is not nice?

I bought him a baby dolly today to try and teach him to be nice Blush

My 14 mth son is the same and is hitting me and every inanimate object in the house. I feel like I stated it tho by beating the ground or things he bumped in to. He hit some one in Playgroup yesterday too, he thinks its funny though! And wen I say no he just laughs Hmm
