14 week old challenge

I have a 14 week old boy and since birth he has always been a crier.. I was told for 3 months he has a reflux and was given all sorts of medication. I come to a breaking point of him crying 24/7 and took him to a&e where i was told he does not have a reflux but he is allergic to cows milk protein and had to stop all the reflux medication and start him on neocate instead. He took about 2 days to start having good amounts of the new milk but has been a changed baby for the last week but the past 2 days has been refusing bottles again and gone from having 5 6oz bottles a day to just 2 bottles a day! Anybody else had this problem? Its so frustrating!

No experience of this sorry but if you post on the allergies or the breast & bottle section, you may get a few more replies. You can ask MNHQ to move this thread via the report button.

Did they do any tests on him in hospital? Really you should have been referred to a Paed.

SteamWisher · 14/11/2013 08:42

Why did they stop the reflux meds? They shouldn't have just stopped them cold.

Go back to your GP and ask for an urgent appointment. 2 bottles is nowhere near enough a day. demand reflux meds - you can be intolerant to the milk and have reflux as well.

Thanks for the reply.

He saw a pead in a&e who said its a milk allergy and hes on a waiting list to see another pead which the doctor has referred him to but she said it could be 2 months before appointment comes through.

And they stopped the reflux meds because they dont believe its a reflux just a milk allergy. My health visitor is making a complaint about the doctor we saw as before i took him to a&e she told me im being stupid my baby is the picture of health and im lucky!

How is he now? Agree that 2 bottles a day is nowhere near enough, not only will he be missing out on essential calories but there is a risk of dehydration too.

Which doctor is you HV putting the complaint in about? The one on a&e?

I'd be tempted to see the GP and see if they can get you an appointment with the Paediatrian more quickly.

Took him back to a&e lastnight got sent home after his feeds were observed and got told to bring him back in the morning if he is still refusing. So took him back this morning hes on 24/7 hospital home care so i have to ring them if im having any problems and not take him to his GP. Hes now

On ranitidine & gaviscon for reflux, lactoluse for constipation & neocate for milk allergy.
And my HV is putting a complaint in about his GP as i was sent home multiple times after being told im paranoid and there is nothing wrong with my son

So glad you are actually getting some support now, it sounds like you've both had a distressing time.

What do you think about the GP? Do you think its worth putting in a complaint yourself?

SteamWisher · 15/11/2013 21:57

That's good news. Reflux and intolerance usually go hand in hand so better to keep the meds as well.

DonDonzx · 15/11/2013 22:22

I do think his GP was out of order for putting it down to paranoid first time parents but ill leave my HV to give the complaint in, they were always saying he's fine & healthy because he was putting weight on but i always knew there was something wrong from birth.
Poor baby always crying in pain hopefully it starts to calm down soon for him.
