3 yo scared of noises

please help..

My daughter is scared of almost all noises! Aeroplanes, dogs, doors shutting from the neighbours.. The list goes on and I do not know what to do as she seems to be getting worse.

When we are out and she hears a noise she doesn't like I fully explain what it is, why it makes that noise etc.

She has been like it for about a year now and I am worried it is starting to affect her socially. She is anxious and wants me to hold her all the time which is not possible at all. She hides under quilts at home, tables at nursery and when we are out she will hide behind me.

Does anyone else have/or have had this problem? Advice would be great on how to handle this and prevent it from continuing.

DS was similar. He's 6 now. I used to be incredibly blasé about it in the end. Fussing and cooing didn't help so I had little option than to just say "Ach, it's ok it's only the bin lorry/lawn mower..." and carry straight on.

Hi. I know it's early days, but I wonder if she's got very sensitive hearing?

My ds1 was similar and hated barking dogs, helicopters etc and also any loud environment, such as a cinema, parties etc.

We muddled through (he's 9 now), but I recently read a book called "the highly sensitive child" which was recommended on here. Wish I'd read it years ago, because it's him completely. If you can get a copy from the library, it might be interesting.

I just tried not to overwhelm him with noisy places, and with stuff like cars, trains etc, just reassured, explained and kept going as normal. It's a balance between accepting your child and building their confidence.

Ye Gads, the noise some of those hand dryers make nowadays. Bloody ridiculous Shock
