Almost 17 months and no balance?

DD2 is going on for 17 months and is pulling up all the time and will cruise around the room no problem, she will 'walk' holding our hand, crawls fast and it very active lots of climbing etc.

But she seems to have no balance on her own yet always needs to be leaning or holding on to something to be upright - she cannot stand on her own (without a prop).

If you had a late walker how long were they 'standing' before they could walk unaided? She seems so wobbly I find it hard to imagine her walking on her own :( - she seems very keen to walk (and run!) but she just does not have the balance.

Is there any tricks/techniques I can do to encourage her/improve balance?

My DS walked about 16 months. He didn't even go thru a stage of balancing/standing and, up till the day he walked, he didn't look like he could possibly balance (has ultra slim legs). We were a bit worried and took him to a physio. She showed us a little exercise to do with him. She sat him on one of those little footstools (about knee height for him - can buy at ikea) and gently helped him push up to standing. He did it a few times then literally stood up and ran! And hasn't stopped since! It was like "now you've shown me him to do it I can do it myself"!
