Just sharing that after DS2 being a totally grouch every evening since about 1 month old (he would snooze downstairs with us on and off during the evening but generally be grotty) I decided to change it up. Plan was to have half an hour calm time from 6:30, change him/ feed him in low lights and then put him in his cot in our room, and tidy around (while other DS1 watches Dora the Explorer!) and leave him in his cot at 7pm to do bedtime stories etc with DS1. Did it for the first time last night and to my surprise he went to sleep! Waking only at 10:30 for a feed, then straight back down and feed during the night as normal. He went down again tonight so I think (crosses fingers) that all that grouchy behavior was him wanting to be put to bed at 7, not to be down with me watching Professional Masterchef....who knew! I think we went on suffering crap evenings with DS1 until he was about 5 months old....could this be second time around parenting gold? Afraid to speak too soon, but for now I am sitting on the sofa with Ferrero Rocher and log fire. TWO KIDS ASLEEP.

Any one else got any second time around wisdom to share?? Lets pool resources and parent the hell out of number 2....

dc2 is 12 weeks old...i find the sooner i put him down awake the quicker he has learnt to self soothe and go to sleep with no rocking/holding etc for

i have realised that i can correct some of my baby mistakes from dc1 to dc2 but i am still finding my way as dc1 grows...( poor thing gets the raw end of the deal!)

Not sure about gold but 2nd time round I don't have time to re-read the books...

Go with your gut. If your baby cries and you want to pick it up but the book says no... fuck the book and do what you think's best.

And that's all I have to say about that x

Only have the one but DD definitely cheered up once I started putting her to bed at 7pm rather than keeping her out in the moses with us, against advice I think. No more evening wailing, it was a revelation.
