Son starting school nursery at almost 4, pre school before or not?

Hi,
Wondered if any of you have a September born child and if you used a pre school before the school nursery as they are starting at near enough 4.
Is pre school valuable before for a few hours a day twice a week to get him used to me not being there or just more confusing if I start him in January and move him in september?
Thanks for any advice, very unsure what to do for the best?!!

Think it is entirely upto you and what the preschool is like. Don't have a September baby but did use the free hours to put dd into the preschool room in the local private nursery. She did school hours for 2 days a week while I was at work and loved it.

As long as you attend groups like playgroup I think that would be enough though.

I have 2 september borns. They were in day nursery from age of 2 for 2/3 days a week. Moved to preschool at 3 and stayed there until they started school. But i was working from home all that time.

Thanks
We are out all the time but he isnt away from me much at all, a day here and there with my parents but that's it so am worried about him settling into the school nursery 5 mornings a week having never been apart

You sound like you have a very secure relationship and in my very limited experience its the children whose relationships are quite so secure that can have problems adjusting.

Might be worth asking in primary education as there are a few teachers hanging around in there Smile

Well my Sept baby did, but different circumstances from you as I've always worked, and she was used to going to groups with her Childminder from when she was a baby. She was definitely ready for playgroup during that year from when she was 3 though.
