15 month DD creates a trail of destruction

DD2 is 15 months, has a very spirited personality and is becoming destructive, e.g. throwing items (toys, remote controls, books etc.) around the living room (even when not angry), she likes dirty things, and so eats mud whenever we're outside (which tends to spoil things for DD1 cos we abandon situation). She basically likes to throw and touch anything she shouldn't. I know she's just doing what lots of children do but I need to know how to deal with her behaviour. When she's throwing tantrums, I just walk off and ignore her but i'm not sure the way to react when she's throwing things. I want to ignore her but she needs to know she's doing wrong so I tend to say 'no' firmly. This does not deter her. Am I doing right? Will it get better?

another one with a 16 month old dd who sounds exactly the same, shes very hyper, and desctructive, she throws things, climbs things, (you get the picture) shes a nightmare to take to other peoples houses, i do ignore her in my own house, but cant when im in other peoples houses and shes wrecking their things, or is going to hurt herself, i try distraction, but that rarely works as shes so hyped up she wont look at anything else and just throws herself on the floor, the last resort is strapping her into her buggy to calm down, this works sometimes, but she can escape.

Its so frustrating isn't it. I'm sure we're on the right lines with the little terrors, just need to know which is best, ignoring or a firm NO. I never had this problem with DD1. Luckily for me DD2's ok at other people's houses as she gets very shy. I just need to know how to manage the destructive situation at home.

dd is the same... if i try the firm no technique when she's throwing stuff or hitting i either get a screaming tantrum or laughed at... no in between.

it's frustrating and i have no idea how i should be dealing with her... the worst part is she's not trying to be naughty she's just hyper so i feel horrible giving out to her but don't want her to turn into one of those little monsters you see tearing up the supermarket at 3/4 yrs old and hitting their mom when she tries to stop them

aarrgghhh.... sorry for ramble, not being any help at all am i?

my dd is already one of 'those' kids you see in the supermarket
she shouts the whole way round, grabs anything within reach, throws things out of the trolley, escapes from the trolley, is generally a monster, shes not crying or having a tantrum, just being, erm, lively! gives other shoppers a laugh though

The good news is that they grow out of this.

The bad news is that I had a 15 month old like this, and he had mutated into a 3 YEAR OLD FIDDLER!
